The story behind the photo: On my hike to Mystic Falls,
I got a chance to walk through the Biscuit Basin. On that morning
where I was alone walking through this geyser basin, I found myself in
awe of almost everything I saw. Although the "biscuit" formations
that gave the basin its name were destroyed by the activity caused in this
region by the big 1959 earthquake, each of the thermal features here are
very interesting. At the end of the basin before reaching the Mystic
Falls trailhead, I came upon this twin-vented geyser called Avoca Geyser.
I was struck not only by the odd double vents but by the contrast of color.
I decided to take a picture of it as a panorama in order to get the essence
of its horizontal shape.
