The story behind the photo: Here is a long shot of Minerva Terrace
in the foreground with the dormant Mound Terrace in the background.
Between the two shots, you can see the boardwalk winding its way through
Mammoth Hot Springs. It is hard to do these formations justice as
they appear in person. I think it looks like a small mountain in
the background of an odd chalky formation, but Mound Terrace really isn't
that large and Minerva Terrace is far more fascinating with its boiling
water spilling over the sides of these incredible formations falling several
dozens of feet. One must also remember that this is only a small
part of the Mammoth Hot Springs, which are pretty unusual. Loree
took this photo the same day as the previous one on a beautiful day.
At the time, I was taking notes on every thermal feature with hopes of
having material to write travel guides of various types. I still
have my notes, but I have hardly had time to work on them.
