The story behind the photo: I like this hot spring more
than any of the others at Mammoth Hot Springs from an aesthetic standpoint.
Palette Spring to me was just that, a spring that looked like a painter's
palette. Loree was a little less impressed, and clearly there aren't
half a million different colors on this palette. But, for me, the
way that the feature flowed, the fluffiness of it, the subtle water flow
down the steep sides. I don't know; it just got to me. It doesn't
have the amazing sharp terraces of other features like Minerva, but I love
the little pink, the million shades of orange, the milky white. Perhaps,
I was seeing it at the right time and at the right place. When things
touch me, I have an endless curiosity for them. Some prefer to take
beauty in without comment, but I know no other way than to engage it in
my reflection.
