The story behind the photo: On the day after I made
a strenuous hike to Union Falls, I was in no mood for a heavy day hike.
So, I took the day to go to Mammoth Hot Springs and peruse the historical
archives. I got some very interesting material, and part of me wished
that I could spend several months doing research in the archives.
In any event, I wanted to see something besides archives in a file cabinet,
so after touring Fort Yellowstone, I drove out about five miles to Wraith
Falls. I was very sore, but I made the short half-mile hike back
to Wraith Falls. In some ways, this is more of a cascade than a waterfall,
but its height is listed at 100 feet. As you can see for yourself,
there is something wraith-like about these falls, although I cannot quite
put my finger on it. In any respect, it has an interesting shape..
