Crazy; I think this was the most popular day this "newspaper" has ever had, and it's not even peak tourist season, or heck, fire season. One thing is for sure; people sure love disasters--well, at least some kinds of disasters; there are plenty of other quite real disasters going on right now in Yellowstone that very few seem to care about

12/29/08 Yellowstone's earthquakes--the Apocalypse (by Kyle Brady)--and this person really believes it, too, though admits that he's not a geologist. I will say this, though. However, like Nostradamus of old, one can never make much of mere correlations.
12/29/08 Earthquakes continue to increase intensity & focus at Yellowstone (by Lan Lamphere)--spoke on the phone with Dr. Robert Smith, perhaps the greatest expert on the caldera around. However, Dr. Smith would never say that the caldera is overdue to explode as Lan suggests here--while urging people more or less to panic. I attended a lecture Smith gave a couple years ago when the Canyon Education Center opened. He pointed out that you cannot draw a generalization of explosion intervals from only a few instances. That's what we'd call in logic a very weak inference.

12/5/08 From the first Snowmobile Queen (by Marlys Carter in West Yellowstone News)--I have an unusual stance on snowmobiles and winter use in general, and am more concerned with economic class issues and not so much with what make people passionate about this; however, as far as the air in West Yellowstone, I was never there when it was apparently far dirtier in winter. I was shocked by how disgusting the air was in West Yellowstone last winter; and as an easterner, I know dirty air when I smell it. It feels like it's all trapped in the snow or in a haze over the bowl of the valley
